Adult Courses

General English

General English courses are ideal for students who would like to improve their communication skills. At Unique, General English courses are available full-time (25 hours per week), or part-time (15 hours per week).

Course content

Morning classes focus on grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading and writing plus skills for living and working with English speakers. Afternoon classes focus on speaking, listening, pronunciation, fluency and communication skills.

English for Academic Purposes / IELTS Preparation

These courses prepare students for university study in New Zealand or another English-speaking country. The courses prepare students for the IELTS examination.

Course content

Morning classes focus on grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as academic skills for university study. Afternoon classes focus on specific preparation for the four parts of the IELTS examination.

Exam Preparation

Students can prepare for TOEFL or Cambridge examinations at Unique. These courses are offered subject to demand.

Course content

Students study General English or English for Academic Purposes in the morning classes. The afternoon classes prepare students for TOEFL or Cambridge examinations.

Business & Work Skills Development

This course is perfect for students planning to work in an English-speaking environment. Students gain the confidence needed to work in New Zealand.

Course content

Topics covered include writing CVs, finding jobs, interview skills, meeting customers, writing emails, telephone skills, meetings, problem solving and team work.

Pre-Paid Tuition for students with TEC funds

 Unique New Zealand is a TEC approved provider for the English for Migrants scheme.  This is for students who have pre paid tuition fees to the Department of Labour (Immigration New Zealand) prior to immigrating.

If you are one of these students and would like to use your pre-paid tuition fees for studying at Unique New Zealand, please contact  us or come in and see us at 1 Clyde Road, Browns Bay.  Please bring your TEC student ID number with you and some identification (passport) when you come to enrol.

Evening IELTS Preparation Classes

This course prepares students for the IELTS examination.  It is perfect for people who would like to prepare for the IELTS exam but cannot study in our EAP course during the day or for current students who would like some extra classes at night. There are 2 class levels only for this special course: Intermediate and Upper Intermediate/Advanced.

Course dates and times: Tuesdays and Thursdays 4.30pm-6.30pm

Starting: 22nd May 2012
