General English

General English programmes are ideal for students who would like to improve their communication skills. At Unique, General English programmes are available full-time (25 hours per week), or part-time (15 hours per week). 

Programme content

Morning classes focus on grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading and writing plus skills for living and working with English speakers.

Afternoon classes focus on activating the language skills learned in morning classes, through language and vocabulary activities, role plays and electives from which students can select.

English for Academic Purposes / IELTS Preparation

These programmes prepare students for university study in New Zealand or another English-speaking country. The programmes prepare students for the IELTS examination.

Free Practice IELTS tests are also run each week for EAP students who want to practise before their actual tests.  Your EAP teacher can give you more information about these.

At Unique, EAP programmes  are available full-time (25 hours per week), or part-time (15 hours per week). 

Programme content

Morning classes focus on grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as academic skills for university study. Afternoon classes focus on specific preparation for the four parts of the IELTS examination.

You can also sit the IELTS exam at Unique New Zealand.  Unique New Zealand runs IELTS exams on behalf of and in partnership with Massey University.  Talk to your student advisor or Contact Us for more information. The IELTS exam dates at Unique New Zealand for 2017 are:

30th March (Academic only)

25th May (Academic and General)

5th October (Academic only)

14th December (Academic only)

Exam Preparation

This preparation programme will help students to prepare for the Cambridge First (FCE) exam. It will teach the skills needed to do well in the exam. Students joining the FCE preparation programme will study “English for Academic Purposes” in their morning class and the afternoon class is focussed on preparing for the FCE exam.

Students can take the exam at the end of the programme in an exam centre in Auckland. The application deadline for the exam is the beginning of October and UNIQUE can assist with the application.
